Instead of making New Year’s resolutions, I now make a list of 5 things I will NOT do in the coming year

Are you good about your New Year’s resolutions?

If not, do you ever just not want to make New Year’s resolutions anymore?

I hope I’m not along in this….

I finally just decided to stop making them.

I got sick of disappointing myself and the mental struggle that went along with not being able to stick with them.

That’s when I made a decision.

If I want to eat healthy, I can start any time I want.

When I’m ready to try a new schedule or new organizational method I’ll just try.

I don’t have to wait until New Year’s to do it. And neither do you!

If you’ve stopped making resolutions, or made some but are not happy with your results, try this instead…..

Make a list of things you will NOT do this year!

I do this every year.

It’s not a list of resolutions I can break. It’s a list of things I do not want to do anymore. Things I want to change about business and/or myself and the way I live.

It has changed my whole outlook on how my year would go.

Think Outside the Box

When I wrote my first 5 Things I Will NOT Do list back in 2016 I did so good about sticking to that list.

My lists in 2019 & 2020 . . . . not as successful. Even my 2021 list wasn’t 100% successful, but I made progress. Then last year I moved my lists from my Ambassador Crochet blog over to here. It seemed more fitting.

But the last few years have thrown me for a loop, and I feel like my life has changing so much that I need to make another list and read it regularly.

So, here goes . . . . .

5 THINGS I WILL NOT DO IN 2025

  1. I will not be so competitive that I don’t have fun – I thrive on competition. But the last few years I have gotten out of control with certain things (like golf). I want to progress and get better, so when I have a bad shot or day I just get miserable and think that I should be doing better. This year I’m going to work on just having fun!
  2. I will not let my clutter get out of control again – I’ve been working on decluttering my house for what seems like years. I’m fully aware that clutter is a stress trigger for me so I’m making it my goal to keep up with it (which is hard with 5 kids living at home!)
  3. I will not quit in the middle of a project – I love starting new projects (personal and business). And one thing I’ve learned about myself is that it’s the planning phase that I love. Once it’s been started I easily fall off the wagon. So, this year will be all about not quitting!
  4. I will not forget about self-care – I get so wrapped up in taking care of everyone else that I don’t even think about taking care of me. I’ve been trying (I took up golf for me), but I sometimes go long spurts until burn out sets in before I realize I forgot about me again. Not this year!
  5. I will not overthink and worry about what people are going to think – I have a bad habit of overthinking things and sometimes it makes me believe I’m not good enough. So this year I’m going to work on loving me and building my confidence in who I am (Confidence also happened to be my word of the year in 2016).

QUIT THE RESOLUTIONS BEFORE YOU MAKE THEM

This year, if you’ve already broken your resolutions (or you didn’t make any), try making your own list of 5 things you won’t do in 2025.

Leave a comment and let me know what’s going to be on your list!

I’m looking forward to an amazing 2025!
